I always thought you had it all—the talent and ambition of Joe, the broad love of Willo. And I was prepared to write you a long letter but eager to write you quickly about the Joe-book. Wow and wow and wow. How we have enjoyed it—every word, Rebecca—a walk-off home run.

A friend of H’s who stops by to paint with me grabbed it from my hands, couldn’t stop looking at every chapter (he’s a long-time Orioles fan (boo hiss) and insisted I tell him everything about Joe that I knew! He is very familiar with Connie Mack—Maryland.

The cover is stunning, the frontispiece the same—I could kiss him—dear innocent boy! Mr. Isaac was a friend of my dad also, and many of the Albion names were familiar.

I love the chapter organization and their titles. Clever. And Greenville was the home of my beloved cello teacher,  the only town within reach where we could get it repaired.

“Cooper’s” should be on every sleeve of a Detroit Tiger instead of “Meijer.” What history you have documented. Norma and Fred Kahler!!—dearest friends—and the Ebys!
